I’m excited to share the first pieces from my latest collection of British landscape paintings, Closer to Home. This collection started out as an exploration of the world from a child's point of view, peeping through flowers and long grass and out into nature. But it transformed into a more personal, heartfelt idea. Painted across two continents, this collection has been a journey, starting with simple thumbnail sketches that slowly grew into fully realised canvases. The initial stages are always thrilling for me—translating rough ideas into something larger and more expressive. The path isn't always linear, but it is always enjoyable.
Throughout this process, I’ve drawn inspiration from masters like Monet and Edgar Payne, especially in how they approach light, atmosphere, and composition. Monet’s soft, impressionistic brushwork and Payne’s bold, dramatic rendering of form helped guide my choices in color, texture, and layout. As I moved from sketches to the canvas, I focused on capturing a sense of place and mood, letting the natural landscapes evolve into something more atmospheric and abstract.
I’m constantly experimenting with techniques that evoke different moods, whether it’s through bold color choices or soft layering of acrylics. This collection allowed me to play with both, balancing between defined details and more ethereal, dreamlike strokes.

Why I Paint the British Landscape
I draw inspiration from the landscapes that go beyond signposts and boundaries, places where the vastness of nature speaks to me. Whether it’s the scrublands, borderlands, or even those places that feel like home, these spaces invite reflection.
There’s something poetic in the swift changes of the seasons: the cold creeping in too fast, autumn's fleeting beauty, or the bittersweet arrival of spring. I’m captivated by the gentle curve of hills, ancient oaks, and familiar rural scenes, all of which make me feel grounded and connected, leaving behind traces of myself with each visit.
I look forward to sharing more from this collection as it develops, and I’m grateful for the chance to showcase landscape paintings that feel deeply personal and grounded in the beauty of familiar places.
